Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of Essence of Life Hospice. If you have a desire to give back to the community and make a difference in people’s lives, then join the Essence of Life Hospice volunteer program.

Patient Care

Patient care volunteers typically visit patients in their homes or nursing homes and assisted living facilities. These volunteers are part of a patient’s care team. Patient care volunteers provide:

  • Companionship for patients – Visiting, playing games, reading, listening.
  • Relief for caregivers – Providing a much needed break for a spouse, child, or a loved one caring for the patient.
  • Other duties – Running errands, light housekeeping, walking the dog, yard work.

Organizational Needs

Organizational volunteers assist Essence of Life in areas that do not involve direct patient care. Areas of need include:

  • Filing and general clerical duties
  • Event planning, marketing
  • Assisting with community events sponsored by Essence of Life

Contact us today! Print out our Volunteer Application and make a real difference in the lives of people in our community.

Note: Successful completion of our 14 hour training program is required prior to becoming an Essence of Life Volunteer. A minimum of two hours of inservice training per quarter is required to remain an active volunteer.

Volunteer Spotlights

2022 HPCAI Volunteer Recognition Spotlight

Joey Glass has been a volunteer with us for 14 years. He has the most positive outlook on life and even through some tough personal losses and the stress of being a long-term care worker though COVID, he has continued to take on patient visits and spread his positive attitude to others.

Mary Zuber spends countless hours in the office to help keep it flowing. She organizes all of the IDT mailings, keeps our files up to date and is really willing to do anything that is needed to keep the office running. We would not function without her dedication.
